Nirmal Jayaseelan, better known by patients as “Dr. Jay”, grew up in Lubbock, Texas and received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University. After a short career as a systems engineer, he went to medical school at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where he obtained Honors in Surgical Research.
Dr. Jay completed his General Surgery Residency at Oregon Health Sciences University. He was trained by Dr. Don Trunkey (world-famous trauma surgeon), Dr. Lee Swanstrom (President of SAGES, a laparoscopic society), and Dr. John Porter (editor of the Yearbook of Vascular Surgery).
One of the most experienced Bariatric surgeons in the nation, Dr. Nirmal Jayaseelan has performed more than 10,000 weight loss operations. His practice has every resource to care for the most complex bariatric patient. Dr. Jay readily accepts complex bariatric consults from across the country and even outside the U.S., including patients from Mexico, Nigeria, and Barbados.
